KATHMANDU, JANUARY 4

Imports from China have resumed through the Rasuwagadhi border checkpoint following its reopening, with electric vehicles and cargo consignments entering Nepal over the weekend.

According to the Border Security Post at Rasuwagadhi, 18 electric micro-buses entered Nepal on Saturday-the first such imports in the current fiscal year. The vehicles are currently parked at Timure, with importers completing customs and revenue procedures.

On the same day, 39 cargo containers carrying apples, ready-made garments, garlic, vehicle spare parts, walnuts, batteries and medical supplies crossed into Nepal. Customs Office spokesperson Thakur Gautam said a total of 96 containers have entered the country since the border reopened last Thursday.

He added that perishable goods such as apples and walnuts are being prioritised for inspection and clearance. The customs office collected Rs 90.87 million in revenue within two days of the checkpoint resuming regular operations.

The Rasuwagadhi customs point had remained closed since July last year after floods washed away the Miteri Bridge. Trade resumed after the Chinese side constructed a temporary bailey bridge.
