Transport workers riled at NOC

Kathmandu, December 1:

The Raxaul-NOC Tanker Route Unit of Independent Transport Workers Association of Nepal (ITWAN) has voiced anger against Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC). ITWAN said NOC management was not implementing the agreement signed between it and the workers.

Claiming that agreement has been frequently violated, the unit said a strain had developed in its relations with NOC. ITWAN has demanded that agreement be honoured.

According to ITWAN, though the government has fixed a minimum labour wage the tanker labourers are not getting even 40 per cent of the rate fixed. Neither have they got the appointment letters. The labourers are also deprived of the 50 per cent minimum per trip wage, said ITWAN. “We, therefore, urge for an effective wage policy for transport sector labourers. If the demands will be ignored, we will come up with strong protest programmes,” stated ITWAN.
