Axl in cast for Guns N’ Roses reunion

NEW YORK: American band Guns N’ Roses have promised a return to past glory for their reunion but at least one thing will be at less than full strength — Axl Rose’s foot.

The frontman revealed on April 8 that he had fractured his left foot at the very start of the reunion, which will still go ahead but with Rose wearing a cast.

“Right now, he’s in a cast and we’re limiting how much weight he’s putting on it,” Rachel Triche, an orthopedic specialist in the Los Angeles area, said in a video released by the singer.

“So he is having his set designed for the stage so he can perform for everyone still.”

Triche said that Rose, known during the heyday of Guns N’ Roses for his sprints across the stage, would have to pay attention to how much weight he puts on his foot for the next four weeks.

Rose did not explain how he fractured his foot but implied that the mishap occurred during the band’s surprise first reunion show at the small Troubadour club in West Hollywood last week.

“This is what can happen when you do something you haven’t done in nearly over 23 years,” Rose wrote as he posted the doctor’s video on Twitter.

The show marked the first time since 1993 that the original lineup of Rose and guitarist Slash performed together in public. The band’s 1987’s debut, Appetite for Destruction, remains the best-selling debut album ever, but the band’s stretch of fame was turbulent with frequent tensions between Rose and Slash.

The band played again on April 8 and 9 in Las Vegas before next week headlining the Coachella festival in southern California.
