With a solid story line, thoughtful dialogues, perfect mixture of comedy-satire and outstanding performances by all the actors, the Akshay Kumar starrer Jolly LLB 2 is spectacular.

Kanpur’s Jagdishor  Mishra aka Jolly (Akshay Kumar) practices law in the Lucknow High Court. His father was stenographer to top lawyers. So, Jolly wants to be a famous lawyer and earn both fame and name. But nothing is happening in his life except following senior lawyers in order to please them for court cases.

Then one day Jolly betrays Hina Siddiqui (Sayani Gupta), a pregnant woman, who is seeking justice for her husband who was murdered in a fake encounter

— to open his own law firm. When Hina finds out the truth, she commits suicide. Jolly is plagued by this, literally loses his sleep over this, so decides to fight the system to give Hina justice. For this he has to fight the top lawyer of Lucknow Sachin Kantilal Mathur (Annu Kapoor).

Subash Kapoor, who had directed and written Jolly LLB, has written and directed Jolly LLB 2 brilliantly. The direction is spectacular. He has beautifully portrayed an emotional scene which may touch the audience — when Hina confronts Jolly about his lie.One feels for miserable Jolly while trying to fight for justice.

Director Kapoor does not forget to make his audience laugh. Be it dancing to the Gulabo song by Justice Sunderlal Tripathi (Saurabh Shukla) in the court veranda or delivering funny comments on lawyers while they present their cases, the scenes are remarkable.

The drawbacks can be counted as Pushpa Pandey (Huma Qureshi) as wife in many scenes, dance numbers, and the lecture on Jihad and patriotism which is quite boring. Some may find

similarity in the courtroom

drama and loopholes of the system with Sunny Deol’s film Damini. Apart from this, the storytelling and writing both are excellent. Everyone knows that justice will be served in the end, but the director has used suspense and comedy to hold the audience till the end.

In the acting department, Kumar ‘is’ Jolly. In the emotional scenes, he has nailed it; however, in comedy, he has failed to give his best. Veteran actor Annu Kapoor as Mathur is outstanding. One cannot imagine anyone else as Mathur but Annu Kapoor. However, the scene stealer is Shukla as Justice Tripathi. His dialogue delivery, dance steps and preparation of his daughter’s wedding as well as trying to fit in Lucknow as the new judge is stunning. Gupta as Siddiqui is noteworthy. Sadly, acting powerhouse Qureshi as Kumar’s wife is a waste of talent.

The songs of Jolly LLB 2 are good but not necessary for the film. Music directors Man J Musik, Meet Bros, Chirantan Bhatt’s composition Go Pagal and Jolly Good Fellow are dancing tracks, while Bawara Mann is average.
