Celebrating Photojournalist Day

KATHMANDU: Veteran photojournalist Binod Joshi was honoured by the Photojournalist (PJ) Club Nepal amidst an event held at Alfa Beta Complex, Baneshwor on April 25. Minister for Information and Communication Technology Sher Dhan Rai honoured Joshi at the event.

The event was organised on the occasion of Photojournalist Day as per a press release issued by PJ Club Nepal. On 1927 April 25, the first photograph was published in Gorkhapatra newspaper. And commemorating that day, Photojournalist Day is celebrated in Nepal on April 25 every year.

A photo book titled Nepal The Land Of Contrast was also launched at the same event. The book contains a collection of 150 photographs that were a part of PJ Club’s photo competition held in 2012, the press statement adds.

“The government is aware of the difficulties photojournalists are facing. To solve their problems, the government will work together with them in future,” the press statement quoted Rai as saying. PJ Club could not hold its annual photo competition in 2015 due to the earthquake. Bikash Karki, its President promised to announce this year’s competition within few days.
