Creativity rules runway

Kathmandu

The students of Namuna College of Fashion Technology were on full swing with their creativity and it was evident at ‘Journey of Fashion X Pristine Masquerade 10th Graduation Fashion Show’ on January 22 at Hotel Yak and Yeti, Durbar Marg.

The designs were showcased in three sequences — Pashmina, Prevailing The 2016 Trend, and Inspiredby Tourism of Nepal (creative round).

In the first round the students created various attires using different coloured Pashmina shawls. They used the single coloured Pashmina in red, yellow, brown, black, blue, cream and more colours to form elegant dresses, tops and more. The use of glittering belt on dress, Pashmina with pattern and print shone on the runway. Likewise, in the second sequence calf-length casual dresses with vibrant floral pattern in satin, cotton, silk and other fabrics were displayed. It was a delight to see the liveliness on the ramp. The show ended with the last sequence where some dresses managed to get cheers from the audience. As the title ‘Inspired by Tourism of Nepal’ suggested, the students were inspired by nation’s cultural and religious heritages, natural beauty as well as flora and fauna that attract tourists in Nepal.

Taking the theme of Mount Everest, Yubaraj Thapa designed a dress where mountain and landscape were painted with aquaria colour. Corset was of perfect fit, however finishing was slightly an eye sore with few strings of thread hanging.

Another student Rubina Maharjan in the theme of The Art and Craft of Newars created a dress with 3D effect using red, black, golden and brown colour combination. The materials used were canvas, bamboo and paper where the designer created three-layered headgear that complemented hexagonal knee length skirt and tube blouse. The skirt looked similar to aankhi jhyal.

Total 28 graduating students displayed their imagination in their designs using vibrant colours, different geometric patterns and various materials. They were judged only on the creative round on the basis of presentation, colour combination and event management as a part of their course requirement. The panel of judges included Dr Kul Bahadur Basnet, Advisory Board member of Namuna College of Fashion Technology, Miss Nepal World 2015 Evana Manandhar, Board member of Namuna College of Fashion Technology Anu Shrestha, Designer Mukta Shrestha and more.

Meanwhile three ex-students of seventh, eighth and ninth batch received letter of appreciation in the event.
