Degrees and work experience go hand in hand
Getting degree is procuring much more professionalism in the particular filed. Furthermore holding multiple degrees with good scores shows the capability of an individual. In true sense certificate itself is a kind of work experience. A lazy and unqualified person can never dream of holding multiple degrees. Till the time of holding multiple degrees, an individual
automatically becomes
expert in his field as one must learn to cope with different situations.
— Anup Ojha, Tanahun
Knowledge is the most important thing in building one’s career. It’s preferable that one should have multiple degrees. But we should also have some experience to do the job, so I think both degrees and work experience helps to move ahead in life.
— Bindu Gurung
If you ask me what is necessary to get a job nowadays, I will say that neither a good degree is required nor should you have plenty of work experiences as they won’t come handy. The thing that matters the most is that the organisations you apply to should be of your own relatives. Or else you need to be financially sound to fill up the empty pockets of the interviewer. After that I guarantee that anyone can get a job and move ahead in life.
— Bibhor, Nepalgunj
I feel that people should have work experience rather than multiple degrees to move ahead in life in the context of Nepal. People seeking for jobs face problems due to lack of work experience as job providers ask for experience. It is also true from the commercial point of view of the job provider to take someone with work as it takes a lot of time, effort and finances train new people . So, in my opinion it is important to have work experience.
— Kishor Khatri,
Baneshwor
Although experience does count a lot, but in my view a degree is more important, without degree one cannot get a job and earn a living. Furthermore, a degree is a proof of what we have achieved in our life.
— Prajwal Shrestha
I think that multiple degrees are important than having work experience to get a job. When we start working we will collect experience but education is important as it provides us ideas and also acts as a guide in the path of our life. I think working is like playing Minesweeper where you do things at your own risk
and don’t know if it will
work out or not. Work experience without degree is learning superficially with no soul or distinct ideas. We can use our theoretical knowledge when we start working as it will help us while doing practical work too.
— Sadikshya Thapa,
SM College
‘I will get a degree, and will be getting a lot of job offers’ - This never happens and will never happen, even with graduates from Harvard and MIT. In any case getting a job is a matter of pain and struggle. A person with degree should prepare for interviews equally as a person without a degree. Getting a job requires a lot of groundwork – knowing the typical questions at an interview, doing research about the company, etc. Nobody will hire you just because you have a degree. The best way to get the job is by networking and getting yourself acquainted with people from the field. Unfortunately, academics is very detached from the real practical problems. However, a person with a degree will
be able to see the ‘bigger picture’ and be able to
solve problems more easily. So, a person with a
degree reaches a higher rank more quickly than one without a degree.
— Nitu Gautam
I think that work experience is more helpful while applying for jobs. But I think the most important thing is to have links to get a job in the context of Nepal.
— Bishal Shrestha
It is true that getting multiple degrees helps while applying for jobs but in the absence of work experience it will be difficult. Though a person doesn’t have much education s/he can move ahead in life with work experience.
— Raju Khada
Having multiple degrees is indeed a great asset but simultaneously having work experience also plays an important role when the candidate is called for an interview. When the interviewer asks questions relating to the post s/he has applied for the candidate is mentally prepared to answer. It is also seen normally when job vacancies are published besides qualifications, work experience is also required. However, I feel that experience plays an important role then having multiple degrees. Work experience gives us confidence that the job for which applied is tailor-made for us. Necessary qualification with some work experience is essential in this competitive world.
— TG Ramaswamy
I think that work experience is a must after getting a specific degree in a particular subject to move ahead in life, because without implementing the knowledge gained one will not be able to understand the environment of the workplace. Multiple degrees will be of no use if a person can’t use it efficiently in his/her workplace according to the working environment of that organisation. I think degrees are important, but must have the work experience as well.
— Krishna Thapa,
Ambition College
Degrees are major tools to foster career, whereas experience work as double degrees to become a professional. It prepares people to meet the challenges ahead and make a concrete career path for a better future. One cannot become a professional without a proper academic degree, but it’s almost impossible to continue in a career without work experience. Degree can help in coming up with ideas and add confidence in doing it. Experience can boost up such ideas creatively and professionally to distinguish oneself from others in today’s competitive world. In present context of Nepalis market, I would like to strongly recommend that one should have at least Bachelors degree.
— Yogendra Khatiwada
I think work experience is an optional advantage to a person because if we have the academic degree then we use it to get work. I think degrees are the must.
— Razan Thapa,
Lokanthali
I think work experience is more important to move ahead in life but the problem is we — those who just finished studies — wouldn’t be able to get a job because of lack of experience. So, we can’t get the right job that we got a degree for. Employers should hire people by their honesty and seriousness in work.
— Sarmilan Maharjan
Whether one needs multiple degrees or work experience can vary according to time, situation and place. If we are looking for a job with multiple degrees at a time when they are not valued as much as work experience then we cannot get job very easily. But multiple degrees and work experience, both are necessary to be a successful person in life.
— Rajan Bajracharya, Brahma Tole
Getting multiple degrees as well as work experiences plays a significant role to move ahead in life. But as the topic is to be on one side, I would rather stress in getting multiple degrees first. Getting degrees in different subjects helps a person in many ways. A student who is involved in politics goes around to many places for the Bhashans (speeches), which means the student is getting experiences while getting a degree. S/he is struggling for the party which means it is fruitful for the future. From preaching, the student is learning to deliver speeches, building self-confide-nce and interacting with different people with different thoughts. Therefore, I would conclude that multiple degrees broadens ones mind and increases the chances for work opportunities. Multiple degr-ees are recommended over working at an early age.
— Ayesha
Nowadays people think that when they get a degree there are more chances to get a job. In my view, to get job, both experience and degree are important. Degrees can’t do anything alone. Some people believe in experience and they divert away from studies to job, but that’s not good either. Our education is mostly theoretical, so we can’t use our knowledge in the field. Practical knowledge is more important than theoretical. If people have both qualities they are sure to get a job. So, I would like to say that degrees and experiences, both are very important.
— Sudarsan Kandel
A person holding a degree holds theoretical and some practical knowledge too. After getting degrees, people gain better knowledge about how to run businesses, organisations, how to maintain peaceful environment in the organisations and how to tackle challenges. Let’s take an example of an illiterate and an educated person. An illiterate person can be experienced in certain faculty but can’t get the certificate or degree. An educated person holding a degree can easily gain experience after joining the job, they just need the chance. I think degrees have more importance than experience.
— Deena Shrestha
It has been widely accepted that experience plays a major role in getting any kind of job. Someone with multiple degrees without experience is a bird without wings because to get any job, the priority is given to those who are very experienced, as well as very familiar
with nature of working in their fields. One can challenge or tackle any kind job if they have
work experience, which encourages them to move ahead in life.
— Chandra Rayamajhi
I think a degree is more important than experience to move ahead in life. It is very true that experience teaches us a lot of things that no education can give us but more degrees mean more education, more qualifications and more skills. Education enhances our way of thinking on any matter, have different perspectives and we have more grip and command on variety of subjects. Hence, even though we don’t have experience we will be skilled. A degree holder cannot tackle the problems as an experienced guy would. But what 21st century wants is a multi-talented person who can help the organisations. Suppose a company has a vacancy for a high post then the company prefers a person who has done a course in public relations, mass communication, computer training and many other qualifications. Thus, according to present situation multiple degrees matter.
— Abhinav Jha,
IAAT, India
Degrees are earned only after exhausting hard work. They are proof that show you are qualified for any institutions offering a job. On the other hand, experience is the best earned knowledge. It teaches us many things that a book can never provide us. They are confidence builders while learning the job skills. So, in today’s world both degree and work experience is necessary to get a better job. But to move ahead in life, the most important thing is your desire and how badly you want to get something. If you want to do or become someone real bad than you have to take out the word impossible from your mind, go against all the odds, work hard no matter how many obstacles you have in your path and never give up. It is always the expectation of success in us which keeps us going and helps us to reach
our goals. We all must always remember that whenever we are on the verge of giving up, we actually may be very near our goal. So neither degrees nor work experience, the key to success is the desire for better future.
