Folks come alive

KATHMANDU: Folk music brings alive a feel for the culture of a certain place. Kutumba performing live at Patan Museum on May 8 brought the rich culture of Nepal alive.

A seven-piece folk band, Kutumba uses traditional instruments and specialises in folk music. They played in accompaniment to Junu Shrestha, Nepali folk dancer. Shrestha performed traditional dances including Sangini dance, which is popular during the Tihar festival. Mica Sundari, a singer of Nepali folk songs enchanted the audience with her voice. The added ambience of the museum courtyard lent effect. The programme did start much later than stated but it was a fun evening. — HNS
