Monaco is the country famous as a tourist and recreation center. It is the second smallest independent state in the world. It is mainly known for its mild climate, splendid scenery and gambling facilities and tax-free incomes. Monaco packs a lot of living into a little land. It is a fairy tale land built on luck. The official language of the country is French. The biggest event held in the country is Formula One Grand Prix in mid May. In this event the world’s best drivers hit the city streets and crossing the road becomes an extreme sport. Other events are Monte Carlo Rally in January, the International Circus Festival in January, the Great Magic Prize in March and the International Fireworks Competition in early August. The attractions of the country are Monte Carlo Casino, Musée Océanographique and Palais du Prince. Monte Carlo Casino is one the highlights of the country. Monaco would be just another little town without this casino. It’s almost worth it just to view the over-the-top baroque splendour of the casino’s architecture. Musee Oceanograhique is the museum with 90 seawater tanks and displays living coral. There’s also a display on the work of the late, great Jacques Cousteau, as well as other ocean explorers. The museum is the best aquarium in Europe. Palais du Prince is the Monaco’s royal palace built in the 13th century. It is one of the Europe’s most elegant castles worth visiting. It has 15 rooms including the Throne Room and is open to the public. The Musée des Souvenirs Napoléoniens located in the palace has a collection of Napoleon’s personal stuffs including one sock, a handkerchief and a bunch of medals, coins, uniforms and swords.
