KATHMANDU, AUGUST 31

Nepal's premier folk-rock band, Nepathya, entertained a full-house audience during their debut concert in Malta as part of their ongoing Europe tour.

Following successful performances in the UK and Denmark, Nepathya captivated the Malta audience with a blend of classic and contemporary songs, delighting the growing Nepali diaspora in the strategically significant Mediterranean nation.

In a statement, Nepalaya, the band's management company, said the Malta Fair and Convention Centre erupted in joy as the band opened their show with the evergreen hit "Koshi ko Pani Yo Jindagani." The crowd sang along and swayed with lead vocalist Amrit Gurung throughout the two-hour performance.

"Out of necessity and opportunity, our ancestors came all the way here, referring to the British Gurkha presence in the country during World War II, shedding their blood and sweat," Amrit Gurung said during the performance. "Let us sing a song in their memory." As he performed 'Nainataal,' a song evolved from the traditional Lahure heritage, the audience was visibly moved.

"The Nepali tradition of venturing far in search of opportunity has brought you all here today," Amrit added. "Work with integrity and respect the local culture. When you show respect, it will respect you in return."

From the stage, Amrit also urged Nepalis around the globe to safeguard their language and culture and to fulfill their responsibilities toward their homeland. He encouraged them to remain connected with their relatives in Nepal, the statement read.

Following their Malta concert, the 14-member entourage will head to Lisbon, Portugal, to perform on August 31, before proceeding to Belgium, their final stop before returning to Nepal.
