Joan Baez sings for peace
Los Angeles: Veteran protest singer Joan Baez has joined the growing camp of anti-war activists outside President George W Bush’s Texas ranch. According to reports, she performed classics like “Song of Peace,” “Where Have All the Flowers Gone” and “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” for about 500 people on a stage set up by one of Bush’s neighbours who opposes the Iraq war. The camp was started by Cindy Sheehan, whose son Casey, 24, served in the US military and was killed in Baghdad last year. She is demanding that Bush meet her to give her an explanation for the controversial war. Sheehan left camp last week to care for her mother, who suffered a stroke. Bush has said he sympathises with Sheehan but won’t change schedule to meet her.
