On the street for peace
Kathmandu:
The never-ending traffic jams of Kantipath area seemed to be denser due to the restriction of vehicles towards Thamel. The pouring crowd of youngsters, the booming music and the euphoria among the crowd proved that the 5th Annual Tuborg Project: Peace Thamel 2007 will be the talk of the town. All boys and girls decked up in their best winter attire looked all set to rock the street festival. Some looked like rock stars, some proved that punk is
not yet dead, some had the hip hop look and some just tried to blend in, yet all looked fabulous and in the mood to dance.
The crowd started to gather for music and dance at the street festival from the afternoon. And at the scheduled time the crowd was already waiting for the DJs to start their mixes. To cater to the crowd, two stages had been set up, one at Tridevi Marg was playing commercial hip-hop and popular Indian music mixes and another at Narshimha Chowk had the house and trance mixes. Most of the youngsters seemed to be moving to the commercial beats, also for the bigger space it had. Be it foreigners, teenagers, hard-core music fans or even the vendors and the snake charmers, none were left behind from being touched by the musical extravaganza.
Some were losing themselves to trance music and moving their body to techno mixes, while some were busy showing off their dancing skills in the commercial hip-hop songs.
“I have been playing for the event for last five years, its usually commercial music that the youngsters like and enjoy to dance in,” said DJ BMan. In the beginning the crowd seemed reluctant to dance and huge circle was formed in front of the stage where DJ Rupesh was mixing some of the best hip-hop songs like Beautiful liar and Get busy. Only few of the kids were dancing to the tune but as soon as he changed to Jhoom bara bar and Ban ma phulyo phul people got busy dancing. It was a surprise to see most of the street children doing amazing hip-hop moves and enjoying the festival. “It’s the fifth year running so organising the event is getting lot more easier — be it with the sound system, security or anything. But along with that the expectation is getting higher each year. We have tried to line up more DJs and we are successful in having almost all the local DJs to entertain the crowd. There are lots of parties going on around the valley but all is not accessible for everyone, so this festival allows people of every walk of life to enjoy good music by good DJs,” said Mandil Pradhan of PartyNepal.
In the commercial, hip-hop and R&B booth well known DJs like Ankit, BMan, Kranti, Pyell, Shishir, Rupesh, Sakar, Nvn and Bawa (Ghana) entertained the crowd with their mixes and in the house, trance, drum and bass DJs Ital, Bhatee, Vibe, Chillum, Aseem, Raj, Mahesh, Nissan and Danny (Russia) entertained the crowd.
After hour parties were held at Tantra Bar, Funky Buddha bar and café, G’s Terrace, Lhasa restaurant and bar, Shisha Terrace bar and café and Reggae bar.
The event was organised by Party Nepal and supported by Funky Buddha bar and café and Thamel Tourism Development Council, Tuborg and Jolly.
