Kathmandu:
The Pakistan embassy in Nepal celebrated Pakistan Day on March 23 at Hyatt Regency. A reception was held on the occasion followed by a concert of classical and sufi instrumental music and traditional Pakistani dinner. Diplomatic dignitaries, luminaries from the political field and other eminent guests made the occasion a success.
The musicians were specially brought in from Pakistan. With Akbar Khameesu Khan on the
Algoza, Sachu Khan on Suroz, Zakir Mir on flute, Ali Dost on Dhanboora and Muhammad Khan on Dholak, the concert was a success. They played what they call “desert music”. “No, we have not played in Nepal before. The show we thought was superb and the audience were great too,” said Akbar Khameesu Khan, the Alghoza player. “To be here for Pakistan Day is indeed an honour and to see people enjoying the evening without drinks it feels really good.”
An exceptional spread of Pakistani food made the dinner menu. The speciality of the event was the ‘Sajji’ (a meat preparation). The chefs had been specially flown and the meal was delicious.
