Poesy

River of life:

The river begins its journey

From the cold mountains

Through the icy scapes

To the evergreen hills basins.

Pass those beautiful flowers

Nursing them and filling them with joy

Quenching man’s thirst

And filling us with happiness.

Colouring the crops green

Filling sand and stones

With an echoing voice

Giving life to a lifeless land.

Flowing to sandy flat lands

From high hills green

Nearer its resting

In the endless sands.

I wish for a life

Like the flowing river

No sorrows just joyful days

To the end of life.

— Keshav Adhikari, Class VIII, Saipal Academy

Voices of night:

I can feel

The night is quiet

But wait

What’s that sound

I heard from the hills

Can it be that

The night is talking?

What is that

Small stones that are conversing

I heard it again

The night is talking

It is dark, but

Not quiet

The talk is not over

It has just begun.

— Roshan Shrestha, Class IX, Prithwi School, Kathmandu

Days of childhood:

Childhood — the age of flower

The time of hot showers

I remember my childhood

And you may remember it too.

My eyes fill with tears

Everyone says oh my dear

When I remember my past

When I recall my childhood.

Mother loved feeding me

Father loved to play with me

Brother and sister loved kissing me

Relatives loved praising me.

I had a lovely childhood

It was an age in paradise

That can never be forgotten

The days will never get rotten.

— Bimika Dhakal, Class VII, NIB School

Beauty:

Beauty is not to touch

Only to see

Beauty does not harm

That is the charm.

Beauty attracts living beings

Flies and bees

Beauty provides

Rest and peace.

Beauty is one wonderful thing

That can be seen in our dreams.

— Bibeck Rout, South Point School

Rain:

Come, Rain, come

You are my friend

I am sleeping

You are calling

Wake me up

Come, Rain, come

You are my friend.

— Monica Bhandari, Class II, VS GEMS

Lost love:

When you are gone

My life is a living hell

This heart begins to burn

Every work is bound to fail.

Getting nostalgic about you

And my love which was true

I feel so down

The sky also looks brown.

Seeing my hopes die

I also begin to cry

Remembering your smile

I relax for a while.

May you always remain in heaven

Though I am cursed in hell

Always continue on your own way

Full of happiness and joy.

— Gaurab Nakarmi, Little Angels’ School, Lalitpur

Fun in the snow:

I went all the way to

Nagarkot,

Wearing a thick black

over coat.

As I watched the snow flakes fall,

I had a terrible fall.

The area was covered

in snow,

And the sun gave it a

dazzling glow.

On the white frozen ground.

I looked about and

ran around.

Therea was a very

big crowd,

And the people all

looked proud.

To see the green hills

All covered in snow.

I made a gigantic

snow man

That was carrying a

milk can.

Some children gazed

and gazed,

And most were just amazed.

— Sarah Pradhan, Class V, Living Stone Academy

Snowy V-Day:

Valentine’s Day was a school day

It was raining and oh so very cold

We could see the vapours

On the window panes

Then as the snowflakes floated down

The classes erupted in shouts

While annoyed captains

Tried to keep them quiet

We could hear the shouts

While some faces showed some doubts

Snowfall in our school

What an amazing thing!

A first time for us

We didn’t know how to react

A memory of a lifetime

A moment to remember...

A day to cherish.

— Tripti Giri, Class IX, St Mary’s High School

What’s life?

Life is a tragedy

If you see it with tears in your eyes.

Life is a history

If you say goodbye.

Life is a comedy

If you see it with a smile on your face.

Life is full of trouble

If you will fill it with mess.

Life is a race

In which you are the horse.

Life is a boon

Don’t take it as curse.

Life is a battle

Fight like a fighter.

Life is a garden

And you are the gardener.

Life is love

And you are the lover.

— Abiraj Tamang, Class X, VS GEMS
