Poesy

Gift of life:

God first forms a body

Then adds a brain

Also a heart so clean

Finally life begins.

Life is a great boon

from God

The only way to

experience life

Good deeds add to our life

Evil acts take

something away.

Time has great power

It runs and passes on

Before your life is over

Write a history of

your own.

Love yourself and your soil

Learn to face every turmoil

Strive to achieve success

Ending all distress.

Life is not eternal

It’s ends in the

burial chamber

Utilise this gift of heaven

For we shall not get life again.

— Samir Ali, Class VII, Societal HS School, Kathmandu

God’s own country:

Far beyond the sea

Surrounded by tree

There is a country new

A country owned by God.

There is no pain

There happiness rains

Peace is supreme

In God’s country this.

A country with a thousand flowers

Hospitality comes in showers

A country where we live

A country owned by God.

— Bipan Sharma, Class VII, Kathmandu University High School

A bike’s life:

Hey there! I’m a motorbike

People never take me when they go on a hike

Why? Because I’m

a motorbike

That’s one thing I don’t like.

If there’s race, they drive me much

But if I get sick, they curse me such

They never understand that I need my lunch

Just petroleum dude, there’s nothing I can munch.

They gear me up, they gear me down as they should

But they take me as a toy, and that’s not good

In muddy places, I get dirty and brown

And then on me my owner will frown.

When I get old, I’ll be locked in a garage

That belongs to a cop or a big fat sarge

Or someone who lives near the scariest barrage

Then, finally I’ll miss my massage.

AIDS :

AIDS stands for ‘Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome’

A burning problem the world over.

Caused by the HIV virus

This decreases one’s

immunity power.

Many have become

victims of this disease

Spread by unprotected sex

Sharing of contaminated needles and syringes.

Many people hate

the victims

Not caring about them or their problems.

AIDS does not spread

By shaking hands or

hugging

By playing or sitting

together

But people hesitate to share with them

And go far, far from them.

— Santosh Budhathoki, Class X, Gyan Shikha Boarding School

My day:

It was the month of May,

The morning was all gay,

The sun’s rays

Wished me ‘Happy

Birthday’.

My Mum served the cake,

Not a single gift did I hate.

This life party will rock,

If luck will come

and knock.
