Punkers Green Day dominate MTV awards

MIAMI:

Punk trio Green Day cleaned up at the MTV Video Music Awards, snagging seven “Moonmen” at the lavish Miami bash hosted by hip-hop mogul Diddy and which featured some of the world’s top entertainers.

Green Day kicked off the star-studded show with a stirring rendition of their “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” which won them six of their seven awards, including for best group video and best rock video.

Hip-hop’s Missy Elliott snagged two awards for “Lose Control,” Pop Princess Gwen Stefani took two Moonmen for “Hollaback Girl” and “What U waiting for” and newcomers Gorrilaz also got two awards for “Feel Good, Inc.”

Despite rumors she would boycott the show, Stefani showed up. The coveted best female and male video awards went to Kelly Clarkson and Kanye West respectively. And Diddy’s own best-dressed celebs award of 100,000 dollars went to Stefani and Snoop Dogg, who both said they would donate the money to charity.

Diddy, the hip-hop star, self-made tycoon and fashion mogul formerly known as Sean P.Diddy Combs, hosted the glitzy event in style, going through several wardrobe changes, at one point oozing sartorial elegance in a grey tuxedo and later sporting a T-shirt bearing the words “New Negro.”
