Rajesh Hamal latest victim of death hoax

KATHMANDU: After actress Rekha Thapa, superstar Rajesh Hamal fell prey to a death hoax.

On May 14, the news of Hamal’s death was reported by one of the news portals asianews-tv.com.

It posted, “Most decorated award winning actor Rajesh Hamal dead from a gory accident after a truck rammed his Chevrolet car. The speeding truck with an Indian registration number plate hit the most sought actor, Hamal’s car from behind during wee hours in Chormara forest area on the East-West highway in Nawalparasi district this morning.”

However, the news was nothing but a piece of hoax. When The Himalayan Times talked to the actor on May 14 afternoon, Hamal said, “I also heard about the news from my friend, but I don’t know the details. I have just returned from the polling booth after casting vote.”

People are spreading fake news, and it is wrong, said the actor adding, “People should not misuse their right to information.”

Dubbed a ‘Mahanayak’ by many fans, Hamal got his first break in the movie Yug Dekhi Yug Samma in 1988. Since then he has acted in over 200 films, including hit movies like Deuta, Ek Number Ko Pakhe, Basanti, Shankar, Hami Tin Bhai among others.
