Reagan’s first wife Jane Wyman is no more
LOS ANGELES:
Oscar-winning actress Jane Wyman, who was the first wife of the late US president Ronald Reagan, died on September 10.
She died at her Palm Springs, California, home, according to the Los Angeles Times, which gave her age as at least 90.
Wyman won an Oscar playing a deaf-mute rape victim in the 1948 drama Johnny Belinda. She married Reagan in 1940 when both were studio actors in Hollywood. They divorced in 1948 as Wyman’s star rose and Reagan increasingly focused on politics.
Wyman, who only spoke about her relationship with Reagan after he died, made almost 100 appearances in movies and television programmes over seven decades. She received four Oscar nominations as best actress and renewed her stardom in her late ‘60s on the television show Falcon Crest, which ran for nine seasons in the hey-day of television soap operas until 1990.
