Straight from an artist’s heart

KATHMANDU:

If devotion to art is the sole object of an artist, there comes a time when the artist be admired for this constant devotion of his.

Chettra Lal Kayastha, a senior artist who hails from Pokhara, has been an ardent devotee of art, who never ached for prominence while others revelled in their middling creations. Kayastha’s solo exhibition of paintings ‘Manko Manjari’ was inaugurated at the Nepal Art Council on June 8.

Nature is Kayastha’s most important influence and this is obvious in his highly stylised images, which blends the abstract and the semi-abstract to create a heat-wrenching impression. The colours, too, without being overly bright and gaudy, express the vibrant voice of his subtexts. The turbulence of the fiery times is documented in the discontent and fear that almost all of his paintings depict.

(The exhibition is on till June 14)
