The Last Monarch gets international exposure

KATHMANDU: The Nepali documentary, The Last Monarch — that chronicles the rise and fall of 240-year rule of the Shah dynasty from Prithvi Narayan Shah to the last king Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah — had its international screening. It was recently screened in the USA and Canada for Nepali diaspora.

“The film was released in 2013 and we were planning internationals shows. It was possible only recently,” informed Ramesh Khadka, the maker of the documentary.

As per Khadka, his 80-minute documentary had altogether 15 shows in the US and Canada. This “longest running documentary” had three shows in Canada — Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary while the rest of the shows were in a few stated in the USA which included Texas, Boston and Minnesota among others.

With these screening, Khadka learnt that “people not only watch feature films but they value their history” too. As of now more screenings of the documentary abroad is being planned.
