Kathmandu Valley to see cloudy skies with chances of rain, says DHM

KATHMANDU, AUGUST 18

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has forecast generally cloudy conditions across the country today, with moderate rainfall expected in several provinces.

According to the DHM, moderate rain is likely at some places in the hilly and Terai regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Madhesh, and Lumbini provinces, as well as in the hilly areas of other provinces. A few places elsewhere may also see showers. Heavy rain is possible at one or two locations in the Terai of Lumbini Province and in the hilly region of Bagmati Province.

Tonight, skies will remain generally cloudy over Koshi and Madhesh provinces and the hilly regions of Nepal, while the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy conditions. Moderate rainfall is expected at a few places in the hilly and Terai regions of Koshi and Madhesh provinces, and in the remaining hilly areas of the country. One or two places in the Terai could also receive rainfall. The possibility of heavy rainfall exists in the Terai of Koshi Province and the hilly regions of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

The DHM reported that the monsoon's low-pressure line is currently located south of its average position, indicating a slightly weakened monsoon over Nepal. However, moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal continue to enter the country, sustaining rainfall activities.

Kathmandu Valley outlook

The Valley will remain generally cloudy with rain or thundershowers this afternoon, with maximum temperatures forecast between 29°C and 31°C and a 40% chance of rain. Tonight, it will remain generally cloudy with brief rain or thundershowers. The minimum temperature is expected to hover between 19°C and 21°C, also with a 40% chance of rainfall.
