KATHMANDU, AUGUST 7
The monsoon showed signs of easing on Friday, with the Meteorological Forecasting Division saying the risk of widespread heavy rainfall has diminished as the monsoon trough returned to its normal position.
Unlike the past several days, when multiple provinces faced warnings of heavy to very heavy rainfall, Friday's forecast limits the risk of heavy rain to one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi and Bagmati provinces, mainly tonight.
The division said generally cloudy conditions will prevail across the country during the day, with light to moderate rain or snowfall likely in parts of the Himalayan region. Light to moderate rainfall is also expected at some places in the hills and at a few locations in the Tarai.
Tonight, cloudy conditions are forecast over Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as the hilly and Himalayan areas of Lumbini and Karnali, while Madhesh Province and the Tarai of Lumbini are expected to remain partly cloudy.
According to the division, moderate rainfall is likely in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Jiri and Taplejung, while most other major cities are expected to receive light rain accompanied by thunderstorms. Pokhara carries a 60 per cent chance of rainfall during both the day and night, while Kathmandu has a 40 per cent chance during the day, rising to 60 per cent tonight.
Although rainfall intensity is expected to ease nationwide, the department has advised residents in areas vulnerable to landslides and flash floods, particularly in parts of Koshi and Bagmati provinces, to remain alert.
