KATHMANDU, JUNE 20

The monsoon system has reached the western part of the country on Thursday, according to the Meteorological Forecast Division (MFD).

The monsoon has now arrived in the remaining areas of Koshi and Madhesh provinces, most parts of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and the eastern parts of Lumbini Province.

According to the MFD, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur in some areas of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and in one or two places in the rest of the country. This weather pattern is expected to continue through the night, affecting a few places in the hilly regions of Lumbini Province and other areas in the rest of the country.

With the onset of monsoon, the eastern part of the country is experiencing significant rainfall. Biratnagar recorded the highest rainfall with 61.7 mm in the last 24 hours, followed by Taplejung with 57.4 mm, Janakpur with 40.6 mm. Meanwhile, Kathmandu experienced 36 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours while Bhairahawa experienced 38.3 mm of rainfall.

This year, the monsoon arrived in Nepal three days earlier than average, on June 10, in the eastern parts of Koshi Province.

The MFD expects that it will take a few more days for the monsoon to reach the remaining parts of the country.

Currently, the country is under the influence of local winds, partial influences of western winds, and a low-pressure system covering western Uttar Pradesh in India to West Bangladesh.

While the eastern and mid parts are experiencing showers, the western Terai continues to face sweltering heat, with Dhangadhi recording a maximum temperature of 42.3°C, Dipayal 40.2°C, and Nepalgunj 41.5°C on Wednesday.
