KATHMANDU, JULY 24

The Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Board (NITDB) has called on a tender for the operation of the Chobhar Dry Port built with the aim of allowing the private sector to operate the dry port.

The company selected for the operation of the port through the tender will be responsible for the operation and management of the port for the next five years. The bidding period will be open for 45 days till September 8, 2023.

Companies having a minimum of five years of experience in port management, container freight station management, freight terminal management, warehouse, transportation, clearing and forwarding, and freight forwarding are eligible to participate in the tender process. Also, the bidding companies are required to have an average financial turnover of six million rupees in the last three years.

According to Ashish Gajurel, executive director of the board, the tender has been invited with the aim of giving the responsibility of operating the Chobhar Dry Port to the private sector. The board believes that after the operation and management of this port using the expertise of the company chosen from the tender process, the port will operate at full capacity, which will assist in making the trade facilitation efficient and cost-effective.
