KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 7

Rain and thunderstorms are likely to continue across most parts of Nepal through Friday, with weather conditions expected to begin improving from Saturday, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.

Meteorologist Rojan Lamichhane said rainfall may ease somewhat from Wednesday night but could return on Friday afternoon.

"It is currently raining with thunder in most places. Rain will continue throughout the day, there might be some improvement from tonight, and then there is a possibility of rain again on Friday afternoon," Lamichhane said.

According to the department, the country is currently under the combined influence of monsoon winds and a western low-pressure system.

While eastern Nepal received comparatively less rainfall on Wednesday, heavy rain is possible in some areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

The department said moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder, lightning, hail and strong winds was occurring in Kathmandu Valley and parts of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as some areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim.

Simalpani weather station in Arghakhanchi recorded the highest rainfall in the latest reporting period, measuring 58.2 millimetres.

Officials said weather conditions are expected to gradually improve from Saturday as the current weather system weakens.

The department has advised residents in areas receiving heavy rainfall to remain alert to possible weather-related hazards, including localized flooding, landslides and disruptions to transportation.
