Western Nepal is set for a sharp weather contrast on Friday, with Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj forecast to reach up to 38°C while parts of Karnali and Sudurpashchim face the possibility of very heavy rainfall.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division said generally cloudy conditions would prevail across the country, with moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning expected across large parts of the Himalayan, hilly and Terai regions.
Very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces. Heavy rain is also possible in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.
Among the major cities, Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj are forecast to record maximum temperatures of 36–38°C, while Bhairahawa is also expected to reach 36–38°C. Janakpur could reach 35–37°C and Simara 35–37°C.
In Kathmandu, moderate rain with thunderstorms is forecast, with temperatures ranging from 28–30°C. Pokhara is expected to record 30–32°C with a 60% chance of rain.
The weather office said the monsoon is currently influencing the entire country. The monsoon low-pressure line is around its average position in the eastern parts and lies slightly north of its average position near Nepal in the western parts.
For tonight, moderate rain or snowfall with thunderstorms is possible in parts of the Himalayan and hilly regions, while heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the hilly regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpashchim.
