More than meets the eye

Her desire to venture into unchartered waters  makes her experimental. A dentist and a fresh new face in the modelling industry, Surya Thapa, in a candid chat with TGIF talks about the two different facets of her life

How did you get into the fashion industry?

I always loved photo shoots and ramp shows since childhood but my dad wanted me to be doctor and I did become one. One day I happened upon auditions for Envogue 2 and rest is, as they say is, history.

As a dental surgeon, how accomplished do you feel?

I have been a part of many free dental camps in the remote parts of Nepal and rendered my services with dignity. As a medical professional I have had the chance to devote myself to the service of mankind and it gives me inner sense of satisfaction.

Are there times when you wish you were not in the medical field?

There are times when my body and brain needs unwinding but I do not have the choice to do so. Even the slightest error can cost a person’s life, therefore, the risk is higher and the job more demanding.

What do you like and dislike most about yourself?

My playfulness and honesty is what I adore about myself. There’s not much I dislike about myself (winks).

Where do you see yourself 15 years from now?

I see myself as a renowned maxillofacial surgeon serving my countrymen whole heartedly.

Take us through a day in your life.

I usually wake up at 8 am and go to the hospital, have lunch at local restaurants with my colleagues and work till 4 pm. I then catch up with friends and workout till 8 pm. Then dine with family, relax, surf the net and finally off to bed.

The craziest thing you have ever done.

An impromptu Annapurna Circuit trek is the craziest thing that I have done.
