KATHMANDU, JUNE 19
Health authorities have reported a rise in COVID-19 cases across Nepal, with symptoms such as common cold, fever, and flu becoming more prevalent due to changing weather conditions.
According to Dr Chandra Bhal Jha, Director at the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, a total of 160 COVID-19 cases have been recorded nationwide since January 1, 2025. Of these, 30 cases were detected in the past week, and five in the last 24 hours.
Most infections have been linked to individuals returning from India.
Bagmati Province recorded the highest number of cases at 129, followed by Sudurpaschim (17), Madhes (5), and Koshi, Gandaki, and Lumbini with three each.
Dr Jha said 640 antigen test kits have been dispatched to border points, and the government is in the process of procuring additional kits in response to the rising risk.
Meanwhile, Dr Yubanidhi Basaula, Director of the Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital, said more patients with cold and fever symptoms are visiting hospitals.
Health Ministry spokesperson Dr Prakash Budhathoki attributed the rise in infections to Nepal's open border with India.
