KATHMANDU, JUNE 9

The Ministry of Health and Population has issued a circular requiring government-run hospitals to stock all essential supplies for organ transplantation within their own pharmacies.

The directive aims to prevent patients from being forced to buy expensive items from private suppliers. Ministry spokesperson Dr Prakash Budhathoki said the decision, made at the secretary level, also mandates hospitals to publicly display price lists of available items.

Additionally, government hospitals must ensure that any new supplies required for transplants, surgeries, or other treatments in the upcoming fiscal year are provided transparently-disclosing the supplier, authorized sellers, and pricing.

The ministry has warned against creating conditions that could lead to patient complaints, emphasizing the need to safeguard patients from exploitation.
