The Nepal Medical Council (NMC) has removed 17 doctors from its official register after they were found to have acquired foreign citizenship, the council announced on Friday.
The removal was carried out under the Nepal Medical Council Act 2020, its regulations 2063 and a council decision, which stipulate that Nepali citizens who acquire foreign nationality must be struck off the council's registration list. The notice has been published to inform all concerned parties of the deregistration.
The 17 doctors and their respective citizenships are as follows: Dr Sharmila Gurung (citizenship not issued, Hong Kong); Dr Roshan Bhupal (Australian, Dang); Dr Moti Gurung (British, Dhading); Dr Dev Raj Sharma (Australian, Tehrathum); Dr Marina Gurung (British, Kathmandu); Dr Niranjan Dev Pande (American, Kathmandu); Dr Rojan K.C. (British, Kavre); Dr Mamata Gurung (British, Kaski); Dr Rajiv Hamal (Portuguese, Baglung); Dr Saluja Singh Tharu (British, Banke); Dr Sujana K.C. (American, Lalitpur); Dr Juna Shahi (British, Kaski); Dr Maniya Hamal (American, Kathmandu); Dr Supriya Shakya (Canadian, Kathmandu); Dr Ichha Gyawane (Canadian, Kathmandu); Dr Dipen Dhakal (American, Kathmandu); and Dr Tusar Shrestha (Indian, Kathmandu).
