The Society of Surgeons of Nepal (SSN) has concluded its 16th International Conference, a three-day gathering that brought together more than 600 delegates, including leading surgeons, residents, nurses and medical students from Nepal and abroad.

Held from November 20 to 22 under the theme "Global Surgical Excellence: Advancements in Skills and Technology," the conference featured extensive scientific sessions, workshops and international collaboration.

According to SSN, participants included surgeons from countries such as Bangladesh, Bhutan, Egypt, Germany, India, Maldives, Pakistan, Russia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and the United States, among others.

This year, SSN conferred honorary fellowships on 14 international surgeons, including the President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Vice President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow. Three senior Nepali surgeons were also honoured with the "Senior Surgeons Award."

The conference hosted 294 scientific activities, including 177 research paper presentations, 27 posters, 68 guest lectures, 15 surgical video sessions, debates, panel discussions and a well-being talk.

A pre-conference workshop on November 20 at Bir Hospital covered basic laparoscopic procedures, laparoscopic hernia surgery and medico-legal issues. Scientific sessions on November 21 and 22 featured keynote lectures, orations, panel discussions and master surgery video presentations across various surgical specialties.

During the event, SSN also signed cooperation agreements with surgical societies from India and Sri Lanka to promote bilateral academic and professional exchange.

The biennial conference is one of Nepal's largest surgical gatherings, aimed at enhancing surgical skills, promoting technological advancements and improving collaboration among surgeons.
