3 PEC students in robot contest

LALITPUR: Three students from Pulchowk Engineering Campus are scheduled to participate in ABU ROBOCON 2009 —an international robot competition organised by the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union — in Tokyo on July 22.

According to Ramesh Chaudhary,Nepali team coordinator, Bikram Adhikari from Electronic and Computer Department and Nawaraj Gurung and Kapil Pudasaini from Mechanical Department will represent Nepal in the event. They will compete with the students of universities from 19 different Asia Pacific countries.

Chaudhary said the robots would be sent to Japan on July 20.

According to the event rules, the robots should not exceed 50 kg in weight, should run by maximum 24 volts of electricity and should not exceed one cubic meter in area.

The students today demonstrated the robots in the library hall of Engineering Campus.

Chaudhary said, “During the competition, there will be three robots, two will carry the third one to a certain distance.” He added,” After reaching that particular point, the third robot will get off and move towards the victory drums by crossing various hurdles on the way.”

This is the ninth time Nepali students are

participating in such international robot competition.
