300 specialists to exchange knowledge on medication

Kathmandu, May 3:

A total of 260 medical specialists will arrive in the country to take part in the fifth Nepal-German international medical conference, which will be organised from May 5 till May 16 in Kathmandu and Pokhara.

The conference is being organised to mark the golden jubilee of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Germany.

Specialists from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the UK, South Africa, Luxembourg, Sweden, Poland and India will present scientific papers on pain, hypnosis, orthopedics, ayurveda, neurosurgery, psychotherapy, psychiatric, alternative medicine and rehabilitation. Over 40 Nepali health specialists will take part in the conference.

At a press conference today, Dr Manohar Lal Shrestha, president of the Surgical Society of Nepal and chairperson of the organising committee, said the conference will dwell on medical practices in Western and Eastern countries.

They will enlighten us on methods of alternative treatment, while we will enlighten them on methods of treatment being practiced here, he said.

Dr Bernhart Trenkle, professor of psychology from Germany and one of the organisers, said the conference will facilitate reciprocal sharing of health-related knowledge between countries and strengthen their ties. He said the meet will also help explore possibilities of alternative medicine and treatment practices.

The specialists will also dwell on yoga and methods of psychological healing.
