KATHMANDU: Metropolitan Crime Division in coordination with Dolakha Police on Tuesday arrested an absconding man who allegedly strangled his own girlfriend to death in Kathmandu about one and half months ago.

The murder suspect has been identified as Prasant Tamang (24) of Baiteshwor-2 in Dolakha district. The victim has been identified as his girlfriend Sanchita Pakhrin Tamang (23) of Rasnalu- 8 in Ramechhap district, currently living in KMC-9.

Tamang had been at large after allegedly strangling his girlfriend to death on April 17, 2017.  Her decaying body was discovered in her room after four days.

According to police investigation, the duo were a couple for nearly two years and were planning to tie a knot next month as the woman was pregnant. They had quarrelled over keeping up with pregnancy.

Police assumed that the woman had allegedly aborted the fetus against her boyfriend's will to carry on the pregnancy, which led him to take her life.

Further investigation into tha caser is underway said police.
