Activists demand appointment of expert women at constitutional bodies

KATHMANDU: Women activists have urged the government to appoint expert women at different constitutional bodies including the National women's Commission, but not to share the positions on the basis of political ideologies.

A press release issued today by different organisations working in the field of women rights --Sathi Nepal, Feminist Dalit Organisation, Single Women Group, Women, Law and Development Forum, Beyond Beijing Committee, Sancharika Samuha, Homenet South Asia and Media Advocacy Group -- made this appeal to the government.

Stating that women's proportional representation was mandatory in formation of the National Reconstruction Authority and expressing happiness over promulgation of women-friendly Constitution, the organisations requested the government for increasing the participation of women in the leadership role.

Issuing the press release, Chairperson of Sathi, Bandana Rana, said that they are very happy towards the commitment of Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli, through his address regarding the reconstruction.
