Agitating local body union awaits govt formal invite

KATHMANDU: Citing that the government had not formally invited them for talks, the agitating local body staffers today said they would continue with the strike.

A five-member high-level committee that was formed yesterday by the government to address their demands, however, did not calm down the stirring employee. “We are not formally informed about the formation of the committee,” said Ganga Dhar Gautam, member of the joint struggle committee, who is also the president of the Local Body Employees Union.

As a precondition for the withdrawal of the strike, they want the cabinet to endorse the regulation on local self governance. The striking union has shown its readiness for talks should government invite them formally.

“But we aren’t invited, we only heard a committee is formed,” Gautam bemoaned.
