Agitating Madhesi parties to observe Sept 20 as 'black day'

KATHMANDU: Agitating Madhesi parties have decided to observe September 20, the day to commence the new constitution as a ‘black day’.

Issuing a statement on Thursday, the parties accused the government of suppressing peaceful protests in Tarai by mobilising personnel from the Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and the Nepal Army instead of resolving the problems through talks.

The parties further said that five persons including a 12-year-old child were killed in Dhangadhi after security personnel indiscriminately opened fire on a peaceful protest.

Meanwhile, the parties have decided to intensify the ongoing protests by opening the doors for talks.

They have also decided to organise a mass demonstration at the district headquarters and burn copies of the new constitution.

The statement was signed by Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) Chairman Mahanta Thakur, Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN) Chairman Upendra Yadav, Tarai Madhes Sadhbhawana Party Chairman Mahendra Yadav and Sadhbhawana Party General Secretary Manish Suman.
