Ambassador Upadhyay to attend Kalam’s funeral

KATHMANDU, July 29

Nepal’s Ambassador to India Deep Kumar Upadhyay will attend the funeral of the former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam.

Kalam, considered the father of the India’s missile programme, died on Monday in Shillong, Meghalaya of India, on Monday.

He was 83. Ambassador Upadhyay will attend Kalam’s funeral representing Nepal.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Ambassador Upadhyay has already reached Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu, where Kalam’s funeral will be held tomorrow.

President Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala had earlier sent messages of condolence to their respective Indian counterparts on the death of Kalam.

Kalam, who was India’s 11th president from 2002 to 2007, had collapsed on Monday while doing what he loved — addressing students. He was rushed to a hospital where he died.
