ANNFSU to focus on making CA election a ‘grand success’

Kathmandu, August 12:

The All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) today said the union would fully concentrate on the Constituent Assembly (CA) polls to make it a “grand success”.

While addressing a press conference organised to publicise the decisions of the second full meeting of the ANNFSU held at Bhaktapur, general secretary Gokul Gharti said: “All the political parties, except the CPN-UML, are not serious on holding the CA polls as they fear loosing the seats they are enjoying now”.

The union accused that the “status quo attitude” of the Nepal Congress and the “extreme leftist nature” of the Maoists were responsible for the delay in creating an environment for the CA polls.

The ANNFSU decided to form various committees at the districts, campuses and election constituencies level to support and publicise the polls, mobilise some 50 volunteers at each booth, and organise zonal and district level meetings and training to draft the polls strategy. The ANNFSU would begin wall paintings, interactions, discussions and public hearings at all of its affiliated committees, besides organising a Mechi-Mahakali awareness campaign and cultural programmes at all the districts.

Gharti also said the union would also launch a ‘Return Home’ campaign for the students living at Kathmandu and engage in the election campaign.

ANNFSU president Thakur Gaire said the union would announce an educational movement within a week with an aim to changing the existing educational pattern without hampering the CA polls.
