KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 12

A report on the 'Bill designed to amend some acts related to the Prevention of Money Laundering and Promotion of Business Environment' has been presented in the Parliament.

The Chairperson of the Law, Justice, and Human Rights Commission, Bimala Subedi, presented the report during today's session of the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting. The report was prepared by the Committee following a clause-wise discussion.

The bill had been referred to the Committee after a proposal to subject it to a clause-wise discussion was approved in a meeting held on April 28. Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, Dhanraj Gurung, had presented the proposal in the meeting held on May 22.

The Committee prepared the report after engaging with stakeholders and forming an 11-member sub-committee. The sub-committee's report was ratified in a meeting on October 11 after discussion within the Committee.

Chairperson Subedi expressed her belief that the amendments to the laws regarding the prevention of money laundering and the promotion of the business environment would align Nepal's laws with international standards and send a positive message to both the national and international sectors.

The proposed bill includes amendments to 19 existing laws and is expected to help curtail capital flight and improve fiscal governance.

In today's HoR meeting, the School Education Bill of 2080 was referred to the relevant committee for a clause-wise discussion. Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Ashok Kumar Rai, had presented the proposal for the bill's consideration in the meeting, which was approved by the majority.

The next HoR meeting is scheduled for Friday at 2:00 pm."
