KATHMANDU, JUNE 23
Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya clarified that appointing judges beyond the bounds of the constitution and laws is not permissible.
Responding to queries raised by lawmakers during discussions on the Appropriation Bill, 2082, Minister Chaurasiya emphasized that all possible measures have been taken to uphold the judiciary's prestige.
He highlighted the need to conduct a study on whether legal provisions are necessary to resolve civil disputes through judicial committees, given the arrangement for such committees under Article 217 of the Constitution.
Minister Chaurasiya further stated that one billion rupees, in addition to the regular budget, has been allocated for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons. These bodies are mandated to investigate armed conflict incidents and provide relief and compensation to victims.
He also noted that the Supreme Court has digitized the judiciary sector-enabling case filing, case information retrieval, and conducting hearings via video conferencing-to ensure justice is delivered efficiently and expeditiously.
