Nepali Congress lawmaker Badri Pandey who spoke on behalf of the party in the House of Representatives raised the issue of Dhanusha District Court issuing an arrest warrant against Chair of Kantipur Media Group Kailash Sirohiya in an alleged citizenship offence case.

Pandey said that while the government had the power to probe any citizen for valid reasons, it should not launch a prejudiced probe against anybody.

If the government launches any prejudiced probe (against Sirohiya), I must warn the government that our party would never tolerate such biased probes," Pandey said.

Spokesperson for District Police Office Dhanusha told THT over phone that he was not saying anything about the arrest warrant but his office was trying to find the truth about the FIR lodged against Sirohiya at his office.

Asked if Dhanusha Districr Court issued arrest warrant against Sirohiya as reportd in the media, Dhanusha District Court Spokesperson Dambar Prasad Ghimire and Registrar Kailash Bhattarai refused to comment on the arrest warrant against Sirohiya in a citizenship offence case lodged against him at Dhanusha District Court.

Arrest warrant issues are confidential. I cannot say anything about it," Ghimire said. Bhattarai said: Arrest warrant issues remain confidential until the person against whom arrest warrant has been issued is arrested. He too refused to comment on the arrest warrant against Sirohiya.

In recent weeks media reports have stated that the citizenship number mentioned in Sirohiya's citizenship certificate matched the number mentioned in one Shivji Sahu Teli. Sirohiya who first obtained his citizenship certificate in 70s obtained the duplicate certificate later.
