Bir Hospital stir towards settlement

KATHMANDU: The protest of health personnel at Bir Hospital is heading towards settlement after a meeting held between the Ministry of Health and Population and the agitating doctors today. The meeting ended with a four-point agreement.

Laxman Aryal, a member of the talk team claimed that senior consultants and other doctors might be resuming their regular works from tomorrow. He said that the ministry agreed to manage security of health personnel. Similarly, the ministry assured to take action against those involved in attacking Dr Dhruba Singh, coordinator, Protest Coordination Committee. A one-week deadline to fulfil the demands of agitating doctors' including the resident doctors has been set, said Aryal.

Meanwhile, Dr Dhruba Gaira, president Resident Doctors’ Association said as they were not called for talks they were not sure if they would resume their work.

The Ministry had attempted to solve the problems of the agitating health workers after the National Academy of Medical Sciences management failed to address the same. The agitating doctors have been halting services since December 23.
