Book on Nepalis living in US
Kathmandu, June 4:
America is a land of dreams and everyone may be attracted to go there, but Nepalis are living a very difficult life in the US, legal expert Dr Shankar Kumar Shrestha writes in his
book Nepal Dehki America Samma (From Nepal to America).
The book, a collection of stories of life of Nepali citizens in US, was released today along with his another book Kaiphyat Prativedan.
Dr Shrestha has advised common Nepali people not to dream about going to US because most of them there ‘have been working as dish washers or egg peelers’ despite their academic degrees,” he added.
“Former high ranking government officers, doctors and engineers are found to be struggling to eke out meagre living by doing odd jobs. It is insult of their degrees and even the nation,” he added.
Dr Shrestha had worked as a visiting lecturer in the Arizona State University and held consultations with the Prof in American University during his six months stay in America.
“About 10 per cent of Nepali might have been spending easy life in America but rest are struggling to live. It is sad to say that I have seen that more than 10 Nepalis live in one rented room as they have no money to rent more rooms,” he added.
