Kathmandu, August 22:

An 18-year-old boy from Sarlahi today challenged the national and Guinness World Record (GWR) made by Pratistha Amatya Bista in 2005 in random object memorisation.

Organising a press meet here today, Rajiv Sharma demonstrated his memory power among mediapersons memorising 119 words in one hearing. Listening to 140 random words once, Rajiv repeated 119 of them in 10 minutes and 117 words from reverse in eight minutes.

Amatya made a national and GWR in 2005 memorising 73 random words,

hearing them once. However, newer records on GWR are that of memorising 500 words. Sharma said, “I have broken Amatya’s record and I believe I have made an international record.” He claimed that there is no record on memorising words from reverse side

till now.

Sharma, the eldest son of farmer parents Rama Devi and Rameshwor Sharma, said he started the practice three months ago and was inspired by TV programmes on world records.

“I want to keep a world record soon and beat any records made internationally,” he said. Sharma is currently studying in grade 12 at the Birgunj Commerce Campus. He claimed that if situation and time support, he will be capable to memorise 500 words in three more months.
