British Embassy in Nepal expresses concerns over Saptari incident

KATHMANDU: The British Embassy in Kathmandu has expressed its deep concerns over the escalating tensions in Tarai region of Nepal.

Through a Facebook post, the UK Embassy has asked security forces to exercise maximum restraint to ensure people's democratic rights, and requested the protesters and parties to continue to engage in the democratic process through non-violent means.

It also urged the Government of Nepal to engage in meaningful dialogue to form a conducive environment and conduct the local level elections peacefully and successfully.

The Embassy also extended its support to the incumbent government in Nepal's developmental works.

The Kathmandu-based United Nations and the US Embassy had also expressed their concerns over the Saptari incident that resulted in death of three people on Monday. The death toll reached four this morning.
