Call to promote women’s rights, empowerment

Stakeholders and activists working to promote women rights have pointed out that there is a wide resource gap in the area of women, peace and security issues across the world.

A three-day international  conference on ‘Localisation of United Nation Security Council Resolution 1325 was held in Kathmandu.

The participants expressed their concern about Nepal’s commitment to implementing National Action Plan, which was prepared to address problems faced by women during the conflict and post-conflict situation.

The conference was attended by representatives of 17 countries including Nepal that have implemented the localisation programme on UN resolution on women peace and security.  The UN resolution 1325 , was adopted by the UN security council on October 31, 2000 to reaffirm the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts and peace building in post-conflict situation.

Secretary at the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction Krishna Raj BC said the mission of peaceful world wouldn’t succeed until the issues of women were addressed properly.
