CGIM hosts sixth int’l conference on sustainable development

The two-day sixth annual international conference-2016 kicked off today at Chaudhary Group Institute of Management with the theme ‘Operations research for sustainable development.’

Inaugurating the conference Yubraj Khatiwada, vice chairman, National Planning Commission, stated that equitable distribution of renewable and non-renewable resources is a must for sustainable development.

“The government’s role in decision making is squeezing. Thus, corporate and organisational decision making is critical for sustainable development and operational research tools can increase the efficiency in decision making,” he said.

He also expressed willingness to work with universities and research centres.

Keynote speaker professor Dr Kirit S Parikh, former member of planning commission of India, stressed the need for designing policies that can be implemented.

He urged Nepal and India to work mutually in producing energy, suggesting Nepal to focus on hydro power and India on solar energy.

He said resources and environment should be managed well for sustainable development. “We should focus on renewable sources of the energy,” he said.

Professor Sunity Shrestha, member of the National planning Commission of Nepal and President of ORSN, professor Geeta Bhakta Joshi and Deputy General Manager of CG Mithlesh Kumar Jha highlighted the importance of operations research for sustainable development.

Jha also expressed Chaudhary Group’s commitment to quality education.

Tulsi Pandey, head of Conference Management Committee, highlighted the importance of research-based education to gain distinctive competitive advantage in the academic sector.

“Our focus is to promote value and research-based education. CGIM is ready to support and collaborate with national and international researchers and institutions that produce world class managers, academicians and market practitioners,” said professor Mahananda Chalise, academic advisor at CGIM.

The conference is the annual program of Operations Research Society of Nepal.

The conference is being held on the premises of CGIM premises. More than 35 national and international research papers, including from China, India, Canada and Thailand, will be presented at the conference.
