Bhaktapur, January 25:

Potteries were broken at different junctions of the Kathmandu valley on the occasion of the Changunarayan jatra today. It is believed that god Changunarayan, taking the broken potteries as a bad omen, would continue to stay at his abode in Changunarayan. The potteries are broken to suggest the god that bad luck would follow the locals if the god left the abode. The yearly jatra is organised on the full moon day of January. “With the beginning of Kali yuga, the god wanted to leave the abode. People are believed to have organised the jatra by breaking potteries to suggest the god that leaving them would be unfortunate for them,”says priest of the temple, Chakradharananda Rajopadhya.
