College distributes blankets to victims

Kathmandu, January 15

Kamalpokhari-based Islington College, which is affiliated with UK universities, has recently distributed blankets to 900 earthquake survivors of Dolakha district.

Dolakha is one of the most affected districts among the 14 worst-hit districts.

The college had handed over blankets to quake affected villagers of Bulung and Laduk Village Development Committees in Dolakha to extend their helping hands in this cold weather.

A team of the college, including the college Chairperson Sulav Budhathoki supported by college students, teachers and employees had visited quake-affected areas to distribute the blankets.

According to Budhathoki, the team had distributed blankets to 815 families in Bulung who had received the earthquake victim card provided by District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee, 74 people from Dalit families in Laduk VDC and 11 students from Lamidanda-based Kalinath Higher Secondary School.

“The blankets distribution programme was part of one of the corporate social responsibilities of the college, so we are proud to be associated with such activities,” Budathoki added.

He said that many quake victims were staying in Kathmandu so such people were not provided blankets at the programme.

He further said that the college also provided stationeries such as exercise books, pens and pencils to more than 400 students from Sarada Secondary School and Bulungkhani Primary School.

He expressed satisfaction at being a part of such a noble initiative and assured that such activities would continue in the future too.
